Did you hear? Someday has arrived!

Some people have the "Sunday scaries." Busy people have the "someday scaries." There's always something else that needs to come first. I don’t know if it’s just me, but sometimes it feels like a quiet chorus of "someday" follows me around every time I walk past the drawer, closet, console, or glove compartment that's been begging for attention.

But what if someday is today?

Hello, drawer. Meet my immediate attention.

For years, I had a system: whenever a cord turned up around the house, it went into one drawer. Phone chargers, extension cords, Kindle cables – all of it. In my mind, this counted as organized. If the kids or a visitor needed a charger, easy, just check the drawer.

In practice? That drawer became a tangled mess of cords fighting to escape every time it opened. You had to shove them back in just to get it shut.

So today, I finally tackled it. I sorted every cord, figured out what device each one belonged to, used cable ties* to keep things tidy, and tossed the ancient extension cords and orphaned wires that no longer matched anything I owned. It took just under an hour but the gift is a small joy every time I get to close my perfectly organized cord drawer in peace.

Here's my takeaway: getting organized doesn't have to be a massive undertaking. You can pace yourself. Be purposeful. Set aside a little time each week, maybe two hours, and tackle one small space at a time. Perhaps a pantry shelf, a buffet drawer, a kid's closet, somethng you see every day. Pick a project that won't eat your whole weekend, and finish it. That feeling of "done" is what keeps you coming back for next week's project.

Stick with a schedule like this, and I promise you'll feel lighter and more in control of your space. It's a genuinely great feeling. And there's no better time to start than now. The kids are back in school, and the holidays are still far enough away to give you breathing room. By the time December rolls around, you will have a better handle on your home and therefore, less stress.
